A Real Life example of how our services changed
one customer's life for the better...

Mr A. of Guildford contacted us in October 2006. He was at his wit's end. Having purchased his home earlier that year, he had no equity to borrow against, and the mounting costs of his new home and supporting his wife and two young children had quickly put him £50,000 into debt.

His monthly minimum payments were over £900, and even at this level he was only repaying the interest each month - the original debt was not even reducing. After his mortgage and these payments, there was barely enough left for his family to live on.

Gradually things got worse. Mr. A. started to miss payments on his credit cards and mortgage - his wife was concerned that they were going to have their beautiful new home repossessed by the building society. She saw one of our adverts and begged him to take action before it was too late.

Our professional qualified advisors arranged an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) for Mr.A which meant that his debts could be repaid at £325.83 per month, payable over 5 years. Now he will repay a total of £19,549.80, instead of the £50,000 plus interest that he owed. Over the 5 years, that's a saving of over £84,000! Yes, just by talking to us, Mr. A saved over eighty four thousand pounds.

Mr. A and his family are now more relaxed and confident that they have enough money to pay their mortgage and enjoy the good things in life. And best of all, in 5 years, they will be 100% debt free.

How to Negotiate with your Creditors by Yourself

Instead of running away and hiding from creditors, you can do it the other way around. You can embrace them and ask for immediate help with debt problems that you have.

In fact, most creditors will most likely consider any offer of repayment or reasonable request that you would make. Maybe you just need to contact them a few more times before they agree to your request.

Dependencies

Your request could depend on the following:

1. The debts you have
2. The available money you have left after all necessary expenses were deducted
3. The properties or assets you have that you could sell in order to pay for your debt
4. Whether your situation will likely improve or not

When you communicate to your creditors, always make sure that you have a copy of all letters that you send. If you are contacting them by phone, you should keep notes of all your phone conversations. However, it would be best if you send letters instead of calling them on the phone.

You will sometimes experience that negotiating with your creditors might be difficult at first. However, you can stand your ground and say that your offer is the only possible solution that you can find in order to settle all your obligations.

Take note that when you seek help with debt, creditors should not harass or intimidate you with harsh words. If you find that one of your creditors is acting aggressively, you can file a criminal offense against him.

Reasonable Requests

But in order for your creditors to take you seriously, you should make sure that you are asking reasonable requests from them. You may use the following guidelines to help you:

1. You should be clear about what you want to happen
2. Always request for an interest freeze because unless they stop the interest from growing, you will never wipe out your debt even if you make monthly payments
3. Specify the amount of the regular payment you wish to make every month
4. Explain your situation in great detail, even mentioning the other debts that you need to pay aside from them
5. It is best if you can show evidence that will support your payment request (an example would be non-payment of debt due to serious illness)

So now you see that negotiating with your creditors is not a difficult task for you to do. However, if you think that you still can’t do it, just seek professional help. With debt advice from the experts, you can deal with your creditors better. GP
